POSTPONED May 21 (Sat) 10:00am Landing Contest - Rio Vista Airport

Event Date:
Saturday, May 21, 2016 - 10:00am

Put your pilot skills to the test at the 2016 San Carlos Flight Center Landing Contest! This year’s contest will be held at Rio Vista Airport. Landings will be evaluated in three divisions: student pilots, private pilots, and flight instructors. In each division, four types of landings will be evaluated: normal, soft-field, power-off and wheel. All four types of landings will be evaluated for stabilized approach, smooth round out and flare, and gentle touchdown and ground roll.

$25 per pilot, $15 per spectator (pilot or passenger) to cover food, prizes, and costs associated with set up of the event.  Participating pilots are responsible for all aircraft rental costs for their own aircraft. Landings will be evaluated in three divisions: student pilots, private pilots, and flight instructors. Student pilots must work with their instructors to ensure that all appropriate instructor endorsements and limitations are complied with. There will be 4 types of landings evaluated:  normal, soft-Field, power-off, and wheel. All four types of landings will be evaluated for stabilized approach, smooth round out and flare, and gentle touchdown and ground roll.  Power-off approaches will also be evaluated as precision landings to a defined target line on the runway.  Power-off landings that don’t touch wheels down within 200 feet after the target line will get a 0 score for round out and flare. Pilots are welcome to make as many landings of the three types as they want, and their highest score of each type will count toward the competition. Pilots must make appropriate correction for any crosswind condition that exists as part of every landing.
