November 9 (Wed) 7:00pm Fly Like A Girl Lessons from Commercial Aviation

Event Date:
Wednesday, November 9, 2016 - 7:00pm to 9:00pm

San Carlos Flight Center invites all women pilots, controllers, mechanics, and technicians to join us at our next Fly Like a Girl meeting.  This month’s topic continues our investigation into women in the aviation industry with guest speaker First Officer Lynn Austin of Delta Airlines, who help share with us lessons learned in commercial aviation.

Commercial aviation has come a long way in the last few decades.  Most people consider the changes from the viewpoint of a passenger, like in-flight WiFi, wide-body aircraft, and fully reclining first class seats.  Today’s pilots know there is another side of the equation – the dedicated professionals sitting up front, shouldering the responsibility of everyone onboard.  Fly Like a Girl, SCFC’s women pilot group, is hosting a series of Meet the Industry presentations to share the stories of the women changing the face of aviation

On November 9th, the women of SCFC welcome First Officer Lynn Austin for an informal discussion about the challenges and highlights of her career.  She will share with us the highlights of her journey into the cockpit of a major airline, and discuss what it takes to become a pilot for Delta Airlines.  How much training was required?  What in-cockpit safety training happens during a normal flight?  How often does a pilot redo simulator emergency training and how effective is it?  With questions from the women in the audience, together we will share our thoughts on how lessons from commercial aviation can trickle down to general aviation pilots.

The women of Fly Like a Girl are looking forward to meeting you! Friendships and mentorships are developing over hangar talk and refreshments. You may find your next flight sharing partner or just come to hear other women’s stories.

Join us if you are proud to Fly Like A Girl.
